I was wandering down a street one day
Trying to find a new place to play.
I didn't know what I was doing
Or where I was going.
But determined, I marched;
Down the road, into the town.
I went in circles a couple of times
Around and around.
Then I fell to the ground.
With my arms and legs spread apart, I looked toward the sky
Oh what a beautiful day, I thought.
If only I could fly...
Before I knew it, I sprouted a set of wings
I stood up and flapped them a bit
Oh what marvelous things!
With feathers as white as snow
And larger than my body's length
I couldn't wait to test them out; to watch them flow
With the wind I'd sail and the view I'd see
And those fluffy clouds clinging on to me.
Without further hesitation I perched onto the edge of a nearby cliff
And counted: one...two...three!
I spread my wings and soared the skies like a mighty gryphon
I drifted into the clouds to let the moisture seep into my skin
I took one look down and gasped at the breathtaking view
I couldn't help but grin.
All my worries and feelings of boredom slowly drifted away...
But before I could sink into the feeling of content
The wind suddenly picked up and there I went
Flying into a psychotic typhoon
I couldn't control my wings
The raindrops around me began to sting
I couldn't feel my body anymore
I was numb from head to toe
And a blur of noise roared in my ear.
My wings began perish into a fiery depth of remorse
A tear formed in the pit of my eye
How can this get any worse?
I fell from the sky in unmistakable helplessness
The wind swiftly stopped
And so had the rest...
I opened my eyes in nervous despair
Only to find myself in my own room upstairs.
Nothing had seemed to happen.
It was just a dream
But how could this be
All I have seen...
Was it just a figure of my imagination?
Of course it was
But I can't get past this nervous frustration.
I managed to control my thoughts
And strolled outside onto my front yard
I plopped right down onto the soft grass.
The atmosphere was painted dark blue for the sun had already sunk within the earth
I tilted my head to look at the mystified shards in the sky
Oh what a beautiful night, I thought.
If only I could fly...
